1971 Porsche 911T Targa - 55,000 mi - Exceptional Body and Paint - All Original Parts retained - Disassembled after the 2018 Bridgeville flood…

I started looking for an Early 911 around 2008 as I planned my “retirement” here in the ‘Burgh. Then in Sept of ‘09 this ad (along with the first four pictures below) showed up on Craigslist Cleveland, I don’t know why it is, but I have found most of my cars in NE Ohio.

The ad read: “Project car “s” instruments, 5 speed, original mag wheels, rockers need replacing, never driven in winter, there is some rust, Bought in ‘74, original owner put on fiberglass front spoiler, 47,000 original miles, original engine, Not driven in 21 yrs. missing paperwork and tools”.

It was just what I was looking for, an original (low miles) 911, a Targa, and Orange, was definitely a bonus… So I went to Cleveland, bought it off Jim Chiara, and put it back on the road in no time. a good tune, new brakes, Fuchs wheels, Corbeau seats, Hi Power Audio w/ SubWoofer, Rennshift Shifter, Wooden steering wheel and shift knob, and I was Cruzin’…

It didn’t take long for the “rusty rockers” to bug me… so over one winter I decided to replace the rocker panels along with some sheet metal on the door jamb. Rather than repairing the rust on the original doors, I decided to find some good replacements. Next to stripping the paint before sending it off for body and paint…

I was fortunate to find Bill Kemper of PANELWERKS in Cleveland to do the body work and paint in the spring of 2011 in time to show it at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix that year in June. He did a bang-up job and was very timely on the delivery, allowing me one week to put the car back together to show it off… Thanks again Bill, these are his pics…

When it came back from Panelwerks I had 6 days to put it together to take to the PVGP… Later I added the 911 striping kit Euro headlights and cookie cutters…

And then the unthinkable happened in the Bridgeville flood of 2018… I had four cars go under water over their dashboards…

After the flood I took it apart and there it sits in my barn with all its original parts and the aftermarket parts I bought for it, waiting to be built by someone else…
